This session will be hosted by Hilda Polanco of BDO and Ruth McCambridge of NFC and also will welcome Jon Pratt as a guest host. Jon, formerly the executive director of and now a senior research fellow at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, has decades of experience in and with membership nonprofits and brings wisdom based on successful experience, observation, and research. Also joining us will be Dolores Estrada, the COO of Peak Grantmaking, a new wave type of membership organization. In this session you will learn:
- What the essential transaction is between a true membership organization and a member, and what must be true for revenue to be reliably generated;
- What the leadership must be and do to manage these kinds of enterprises;
- The common risks and opportunities of membership nonprofits;
- The central role in membership organizations of reciprocal communication and contribution;
- The role membership plays in generating the social capital needed for influence, financial investments and mission achievement.
